Welcome to the Hirayama Chess Mates! We are excited to offer students the opportunity to learn and enjoy the game of chess while developing critical thinking skills, problem-solving strategies, confidence, and sportsmanship.

Program Offered

  • Chess Club (Grades 2-6)

Students will learn chess fundamentals, tactics, and strategies while practicing through mini-games, friendly matches, and tournaments. The club will provide students with the opportunity to strengthen their decision-making skills, patience, and confidence in a fun and supportive environment.

Participation Requirements

Before participating in Chess Club activities, all students must complete the required participation forms. This is a voluntary club with a $15 fee, which includes a club shirt and tournament entry fee.

Students working toward the Block H Award must:

  • Attend at least 8 out of 10 meetings
  • Participate in the main chess tournament on Saturday, April 24, 2027

Please note that transportation is not provided. Students must be picked up promptly all meetings.
